Blair Master Series: Felix Wang and Susan Yang

Felix Wang, Susan YangBlair School of Music presents a Master Series faculty recital by cellist Felix Wang with pianist Susan Yang, Friday, September 6, 8:00 p.m., in Turner Hall. Works to be performed include Beethoven’s Sonata for Cello and Piano no. 5 in D major, op.102, no. 2 and Sonata for Cello and Piano in D minor, op. 40 by Shostakovich.

About Felix Wang:

Felix Wang’s diverse career has taken him throughout the world as a chamber musician, soloist, and in recital, receiving critical acclaim for, “beautifully wrought,” “dazzling,” and “soulful” performances. The cellist of the Blair String Quartet, Wang is a founding member of the Blakemore Trio and co-principal cellist of the IRIS Orchestra under the direction of Michael Stern.

Wang holds a doctor of musical arts from the University of Michigan, a master of music from the New England Conservatory, and a bachelor of music from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Frank Huntington Beebe Grant for study abroad, using it to study in London with William Pleeth.

About Susan Yang:

Praised as a “magnificent pianist” who “offers compelling insight” (Fanfare Magazine), Chinese American pianist Susan Yang maintains a multi-faceted career as a performer, pedagogue, and advocate for diversity in the arts. Yang has appeared throughout the US and Europe as a recitalist and chamber musician, as well as a concerto soloist with orchestras such as the Nashville, Ann Arbor, and Delta Symphonies.

She holds degrees from the University of Michigan, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and Vanderbilt University. Her primary teachers include Logan Skelton, Elisabeth Pridonoff, and Amy Dorfman.
