This performance introduces Molly Barth’s “Together We…” series, an exploration of community, human spirit, and compassion. This project, made possible through the Chancellor Faculty Fellowship that Barth received, enables her to collaborate with inspirational colleagues worldwide, presenting concerts and creating recordings that showcase a thriving sense of humanity expressed through the Arts.

The September 13 recital includes Blair School of Music collaborators Dashon Burton, Hailey Clark, Megan Gale, Eric Wong, Felix Wang, Carolyn Huebl, Mariam Adam, and guest Phillip Patti.

Two of the composers featured on the concert will be in residence on the Vanderbilt campus on September 12-13: Ilari Kaila, a Norwegian-American composer who resides and teaches in Hong Kong, and Mischa Zupko, who is the current guest composer for the Fermilab Particle Accelerator. Other featured composers include Valerie Coleman, David Lang, Scott Perkins, Amanda Harberg, Robert Muczynski and William Grant Still.

A Grammy Award-winning flutist, professor, and clinician, Molly Barth moves effortlessly from concert hall to teaching studio to rehearsal room to orchestral section. Molly needs fuel for this fire. The “ferociously talented” performer (The Oregonian) crosses from Virginia to California, the UK to Korea. The halls may be large or small, the music may be old or new, but the performances are always concentrated and intense.

Barth has premiered hundreds of pieces, finding the creation of new music uplifting and miraculous. As co-founder and former member of the ensembles Eighth Blackbird and Beta Collide, she has toured the world, recorded a dozen albums, and, with Eighth Blackbird, won a Grammy Award.

She is the co-founder of the Zohn Collective, a group of curious musicians who share a love of risk and exploration. They have collaborated with a puppet company and a cartoonist, have toured the U.S. and Mexico, and record extensively.

Fueled by her work as a teacher, Barth is associate professor of flute at the Blair School of Music, where she guides her students to become comprehensive flutists. They leave her studio as skilled, flexible, bold musicians, able to think critically and speak to audiences. Barth took her inspiration primarily from her stellar teachers at Oberlin, the Cincinnati Conservatory, and Northwestern.http://vu.edu/091324-tix
