Blair Master Series: Carolyn Huebl with Jennifer McGuire

Blair School of Music presents a Master Series faculty recital with violinist Carolyn Huebl, accompanied by Jennifer McGuire, piano. Sunday, September 15, 4:00 p.m., in Turner Hall.

The program, “Beauty in the Bittersweet,” features four beautiful works that span almost two hundred years, exploring the universal and timeless experiences of the storms of life: uncertainty, longing, pathos, and hope.

About Carolyn Huebl:

Violinist Carolyn Huebl enjoys a varied career as a performer, recording artist and teacher. She is currently professor of violin at Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music and violinist of The Blakemore Trio. Prior to her appointment at Blair, she was assistant principal second violin with the Pittsburgh Symphony and assistant professor of violin at Carnegie Mellon University. Critics have called her performances “unfailingly sensitive,” “utterly fearless” and “pristine,” and STRAD Magazine declared that she “possesses a beguilingly warm sound and highly responsive expressive personality.”

Since her appearance as soloist with the Detroit Symphony at the age of 17, Huebl has performed throughout the United States, as well as in Argentina, Canada, and Europe. She is active as a recitalist and chamber musician, and is invited to perform on series and festivals throughout the country. Huebl is a founding member of The Blakemore Trio with cellist Felix Wang and pianist Amy Dorfman.

She received her DMA from the University of Michigan and Bachelor and Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Huebl’s primary teachers include Andres Cardenes, Paul Kantor, and Donald Weilerstein.

About Jennifer McGuire:

Jennifer Quammen McGuire is a pianist, coach and conductor based in who serves as principal senior lecturer in collaborative piano and music director of Vanderbilt Opera Theater. Hailed by the Journal of Singing as “a most able collaborator, dispatching every pianistic challenge with complete aplomb,” she maintains an active recital schedule, with recent engagements at Symphony Space, the Tenri Cultural Institute, L’Èglise de St.-Merry, and the Eastman School of Music, among others.

She is a member of The Atlantic Ensemble and The Leela Trio, and has worked with Cincinnati Opera, Dayton Opera, Opera Birmingham, The Nashville Symphony Chorus, and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Faculty appointments at summer programs include the AIMS Festival (Graz, Austria), Seagle Festival, the Boston Conservatory Opera Intensive (Valencia, Spain), Poco a Poco, and the Accademia Vocale Lorenzo Malfatti (Lucca, Italy).
